Verka Serdushka - My Idol

Verka Serdushka, or Andriy Danylko, was born 2 October 1973 in Poltava, Ukraine. He is a comedian, pop singer and a dancer. In 2007, he represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 and ended in second place.


Andriy Danilko started to create Verka Serdushka, a flamboyant middle woman, at a humor contest in Poltava on 1991. He invented the name by combining the randomly picked first name Verka, and the last name from a former school classmate, Anya Serduk.


Verka Serdushka was in the Eurovision Music contest 2007, in Helsinky, with the song "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" or "Whipped Cream". The single for "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" reached #6 in the French charts and went on to be #28 on The Official UK Singles Chart on 20 May 2007. This was the first time that a non-UK non-winning Eurovision entry charted in the UK since 1974.
