Sporting was founded in 1906 for José Alvalade with financial support of his grandfather, Visconde de Alvalade, Dr. Alfredo Augusto das Neves. The first camp of Sporting Clube de Portugal was in farm the Visconde de Alvalade.

In 3 February 1907 was realized the first official game where Sporting lost 5-1 versus Cruz Negra, but in 1 December 1907 was realized the first derby where Sporting won 2-1 versus Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
